Bachelor of Theology (BTh)

Description

The Bachelor of Theology (BTh) course is a 120 credit hours (3 years), primary level, ministry-oriented program of theological education. It seeks to produce men and women equipped with a foundational knowledge of the Bible, with basic skills to interpret its message, and with an adequate understanding of the world to apply this message. BTh graduates will be prepared to serve in pastoral, evangelistic, educational and developmental ministries.

Eligibility for Admission

The applicant must meet academic qualifications in one of the categories below to be eligible for admission into the BTh program.

  • The minimum academic requirement for admission into BTh is successful completion of 12 years of schooling (10+2, Intermediate or Pre-Degree level). Students who are awaiting results also may apply, and may be provisionally admitted, but they must produce the relevant certificate before their names can be registered with ATA. All admitted candidates will be required to pass Placement Examinations in Bible Knowledge, English, and General Knowledge in order to be placed in I BTh, and their names registered with ATA. Those who fail to secure 75% average will be placed in Pre-Theology.
  • An applicant with Standard X pass and an accredited, two-year Diploma in Theology (DipTh), or a two-year Diploma in any professional course may be considered as having met the eligibility requirement of 12 years of schooling. All admitted candidates will be required to pass Placement Examinations in Bible Knowledge, English, and General Knowledge in order to be placed in I BTh, and their names registered with ATA. Those who fail to secure 75% average will be placed in Pre-Theology.
  • An applicant with a High School (Standard X) pass certificate and two years of unaccredited theological studies may be admitted to Pre-Theology, and may follow the promotion guidelines.
  • Mature candidates (25 years and older) who do not meet the above academic qualifications may also be considered eligible for admission into the BTh program, subject to passing Placement Examinations. Those who fail to secure 75% average the Placement Exams may be admitted to Pre-Theology. The maximum number of candidates admitted to BTh in this category shall be no more than 10% of the entering class. Those with ministry experience will be given priority in this category.
  • Transfer Candidates – Those who transfer from another accredited theological institution should provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the institution and a transcript along with the application, providing reason for requesting transfer. A transfer candidate must study a minimum of two years at PTS to obtain a PTS degree.
  • Determining equivalence of XII pass/transfer students is entirely at the discretion of the Faculty.
